“IDEAS TO IMAGES”

My husband & I moved from Ariah Park to the West Wyalong area in 2004. Unfortunately, the drought that had plagued us for several years continued and we, like so many other local farmers, suffered financially and emotionally.

I had always been interested in theatre and art, so in 2009 I decided to try to find groups that I could join to distract me from my woes. I was fortunate enough to be given Leonie Campbell as a contact and as karma would have it she advised me that there was a workshop with Ken Tucker coming up if I would like to participate! Huge thank you Leonie for getting me started on my art journey!

Thrilled to bits & filled with trepidation, I raced out and purchased paints, brushes etc that were required for the workshop and the rest as they say is history!

I subsequently joined Toppy Art Group, exhibited in several Events West Wyalong Exhibitions, held solo exhibitions, and participated in collaborative and group exhibitions. Clairre Cumming (owner of our local Splatter Gallery) has been an amazing support and mentor throughout my journey, and I am eternally grateful to her!

Since my retirement from farming, I paint in my studio almost every day and enjoy producing artworks in a variety of styles and genres. I thrive on variety and challenge and have a passion for colour, vibrant or subdued, as is evident in my work.

My style is thematically and stylistically diverse, deliberate and intended. It doesn't fit happily under a single descriptor as it encompasses impressionism, whimsical, surreal and the absurd. As an artist my greatest challenge is to produce paintings that transfer my abstract ideas and mental visions to tangible images on canvas.

I create my images from ideas and inspirations derived from eclectic sources such as common phrases, play on words, juxta-positioning objects with objects and animals with objects, homonyms, colour journeys and from nature itself. I pay particular attention to placement, exploration into colour and composition in each artwork. Various techniques such as pointillism, sponging, impasto work and more traditional brushwork is used and I am never afraid to try new methods to produce each piece. I am is an intuitive artist who remains seriously committed to my art and I intend to continue exploring ideas, processes and techniques for many years to come”
